JCF made a grant of $210,000 in 2012 to Surprise Lake Camp, the oldest Jewish camp in the country that still operates on its original site. Now 110 years old, Surprise Lake serves 960 campers over the course of each summer. The grant helped the camp to renovate its Main Building. Completed in 1912, the attractive stucco and half-timbered structure has 24,000 square feet of space and houses kitchens, dining rooms, a library, music room, digital photo lab, a modest gym, the main office, some staff housing and a third-floor storage area.
