Position Summary

The Finance Associate will contribute to the efficient and effective workings of the finance department by executing daily tasks with a strong attention to detail. This role will utilize accounting knowledge, time management skills, and effective problem solving to ensure success.

Qualified candidates will have two to three years of general accounting experience with general knowledge of investment operations.   

Hours: 

9:00-5:00 Monday-Thursday, 9:00-4:00 Friday. First three months will be in the office and then will move to a hybrid of remote and office work. Occasionally, extended hours and evenings will be required during peak times.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Controller, the responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Update daily market values for investments accounts
  • Assist with daily/monthly bank reconciliation
  • Manage the accounts payable process, including maintaining electronic invoices, posting payments in the system, and initiating payments in the bank
  • Initiate grant wires as needed and prepare the daily grant NACHA upload for the bank
  • Assist with mid-year and annual audit preparation
  • Process cash contributions, including wires, checks, and credit cards
  • Process inter-fund grant transfers
  • Manage cleared checks and positive pay review processes
  • Manage account closing process
  • Manage fixed assets/depreciation
  • Assist with other administrative, reporting, and operational duties as needed

Required Skills and Experience

  • BA/BS in accounting or business required, CPA a plus
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and practices
  • 2-3 years’ experience in general accounting
  • Detail oriented with the ability to analyze data
  • Strong Excel skills; experience in other financial software 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications, time management and customer service skills
  • Ability to show initiative and take responsibility
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Must be a person of the highest integrity and must maintain confidentiality

Initially, this position requires five days a week in the office. Upon successful completion of training, it will transition to four days in the office and one day of remote work. Flexibility to assist after hours for events and during the busy season in December is required, with overtime eligibility.

Position Summary

The Development and Donor Relations team plays a crucial role in attracting new Fundholders and managing relationships with over 7,500 existing fundholders. This dedicated team focuses on providing excellent customer service, ensuring that our fundholders can easily use our services and have a high level of satisfaction. The team has set ambitious goals to grow both the number of funds and JCF’s assets under management, thereby increasing JCF’s charitable impact.
The Development and Donor Relations Team seeks a detail-oriented and driven self-starter. As our number of constituents grows, this role is ideal for a collaborative team player who thrives in a multi-faceted environment—balancing multiple priorities while responding swiftly to evolving needs. With responsibilities in data management, client services, and event coordination, this role plays a critical function.

Major Responsibilities

  • Enter, maintain, and update information in JCF’s donor management system, which serves a critical role in JCF’s operations. Encouraged to take ownership of regular, data clean-up projects.
  • Process new fundholder applications, open new funds, and assist with other business processes related to fund management.
  • Generate reports and lists for stakeholder communications.
  • Draft and send communications to members of JCF’s philanthropic community.
  • Respond to inquiries by phone and assist fundholders in using JCF’s donor portal.
  • Coordinate logistics for JCF events, including managing event registration, running invitation lists, and consulting with external vendors.
  • Provide support before, during, and after events for JCF’s philanthropic community.
  • Assist in the development and updating of fundholder resources.
  • Prepare materials for meetings with donors and conferences.
  • Other administrative duties as necessary.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree
  • 1-3 years of office experience, particularly in an administrative setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to understand systems and procedures.
  • Experience working in a database strongly preferred. Training will be provided.
  • Detail-oriented, effective time manager, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent relationship building, interpersonal skills, and customer service orientation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours at events and during JCF’s busy season (December), which may be outside of normal business hours.
