All of us at Jewish Communal Fund are working around the clock to process the increased volume of grants that our very generous Fundholders are recommending to nonprofits in every sector of the philanthropic world. JCF is proud of the increased volume of grant-making from March – May totaling $89 million, a $10 million increase over this period in 2019. As well, total grant-making thus far is $465M, and will surpass total dollars granted in FY’19. In addition, we’ve seen an eight-fold increase of giving to UJA-Federation of New York over this period last year. We have been educating our Fundholders about the pivotal role UJA and its agencies are playing in the Coronavirus relief effort.

In addition to our Fundholders’ generosity, JCF sent $1 million from our endowment, the Special Gifts Fund, to support UJA-Federation of NY in its efforts to provide Passover meals and food delivery to seniors and other vulnerable populations experiencing food insecurity due to the coronavirus outbreak.

JCF has seen an increase in giving to hospitals and medical research organizations, and charities addressing food insecurity, but largely Fundholders are committed to maintaining and increasing their support for the charities they regularly fund. They express concern for the sustainability of organizations in every sector, and are making grants to ensure the survival of charities that they care local and regional organizations.
